Passage

Flames shot up, encircling me in a fluttery curtain of orange. The hallway wreathed with light and shadows that snapped and popped. My bare feet picked through chunks of fallen ceiling and hanks of wallpaper that filled the air.

No heat.

Smoke diffused the light of the liquid flames lapping at the walls and carpet.

“Hello?” How had I gotten here? Why couldn’t I remember?
